Nigeria’s First LNG Innovation & Experience Center | Designed by Micdee
Some briefs arrive as instructions. Others arrive as invitations to build something that has never existed before.
The brief from Nigeria LNG Limited was the second kind.
Watch the video walkthrough of the completed center above, then read on for the full story behind how it was built.
NLNG is one of Africa’s most consequential energy companies with over 35 years of capitalising on Nigeria’s natural gas resources, producing and exporting LNG to the world. When they decided to build a dedicated Innovation and Experience Center on Bonny Island, they did not want a showroom. They wanted a physical environment that would inspire their people, engage partners, demonstrate their technological capabilities, and show every visitor what the future of the LNG industry looks and feels like.
They asked Micdee to make it happen. And nothing like it had been built in Nigeria’s energy sector before.
Starting with a design language, not a floor plan
Our process began where it always does; with the brief behind the brief. Before we drew a single line, we identified the nine principles that would govern every decision in the space: Exploration, Innovation, Collaboration, Sustainability, Futurism, Knowledge, Interaction, Creativity, and Inspiration.
These were not decorative values. They became a design language. And from that design language, we built a world.
What we built
The completed NLNG Innovation & Experience Center is 180 square metres of purpose-built environment on Bonny Island, Rivers State. Every zone was designed to deliver a specific experience, not simply to look impressive, but to perform.
Visitors enter through a reception zone anchored by a dramatic LED Video Wall showcasing NLNG’s operations and legacy. The main experience zone houses Product Display Pedestals, a Hologram Display Table, and a 3D Printing Station all set within a material palette of steel, wood, concrete, and fabric that balances industrial ambition with human warmth. Dedicated VR Experience and Development Zones allow visitors to step inside NLNG’s world entirely. An enclosed LED Collaboration Room with sliding glass panel partitions gives the space the flexibility to shift between open dialogue and focused presentation at a moment’s notice.
The result is a space that works as hard as the people inside it. It does not simply display NLNG’s capabilities, it makes visitors feel them.
Why this project matters
This was not a conventional interior design project. It required Micdee to think simultaneously as experience designers, spatial strategists, and technology integrators. It is the kind of brief that tests whether a firm’s capabilities are as broad as its ambitions.
We are proud of what was built on Bonny Island. And we are proud that NLNG trusted Micdee to build it.
